CLA’s Summer Associate program provides law students with an immersive experience in public interest law. Summer Associates work in different areas of the law and get a variety of hands-on experiences, including: interviewing clients, drafting client letters, drafting court pleadings, researching relevant legal issues, attending and assisting with court hearings, assisting with discovery, analyzing evidence, and more.
All Associates receive training in substantive areas of civil poverty law and may observe court hearings. Other professional development opportunities may be available for Associates to meet with judges, attorneys, leaders of local nonprofit agencies, and other community leaders.
The Program is paid and is open to 2L’s (with or without an intern certificate) and 1L’s in four of our Northeast Ohio offices.
Applications open each year in early spring and will be posted on CLA’s careers page.
