Community Legal Aid’s six Summer Associates joined the organization on May 19, launching them into a 10-week work experience in civil legal aid.

Here’s more about the law students who have joined us for the summer:

Katherine “Katie” Ervin is a rising third-year law student at Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana, who is interested in civil rights, education law, and cybersecurity and data privacy. During her first summer of law school, she interned at Strada Education Foundation, supporting legal and policy work related to equity in education. This summer, she will be working on the Legal Assistance to Victims (LAV) Project at CLAS. A native of Ravenna, Katie enjoys reading books, watching movies, and keeping up with pop culture. At Maurer, she is involved in several organizations, including the Protective Order Project (POP) and the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF).

Karlie Klingeman is a student at the University of Akron School of Law who is interested in becoming a public defender, but also has interests in legal aid and civil rights. Prior to law school, she worked as a chief medical scribe in emergency medicine and trauma/surgical intensive care with the plan of becoming a physician, but decided to pursue a career in law instead. A native of Champion, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family and friends, and anything true crime related.

Rachel Mancuso is a rising 2L at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She grew up on the near west side of Cleveland. Rachel enjoys reading, hiking, and cooking for her family and friends. While she has not decided on a specific legal field to pursue, she is dedicated to serving others and exploring a career in public service.

Hannah Taylor is a third-year law student at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She grew up in Chesterland in Geauga County. She looks forward to working this summer with housing and rent escrow cases. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, camping, and spending time with her orange kitty. She's a fan of the performing arts and loves to attend concerts and plays when she can.

Hailey Trimpey is a third-year law student at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Originally from Bowling Green, she is also a dedicated competitive CrossFit athlete, training rigorously in her free time. This summer, Hailey will work with the HEAL (Health, Education, Advocacy and Law) Project at Community Legal Aid, and she looks forward to helping individuals overcome health care-related challenges through compassionate and effective legal advocacy.

Christopher VanHimbergen grew up in Brunswick. He studied linguistics and philosophy at the University of Virginia. Following his graduation in 2022, he worked in Charlottesville, Virginia, for two years as a nondenominational Christian missionary for a campus ministry called Cru before starting law school at Georgetown University Law Center this past fall.
