About the Summit

The Eviction Prevention Summit is a collaborative community response to the eviction pandemic that has plagued the Mahoning Valley for decades. Summit organizers believe that all individuals have a right to safe, healthy, affordable housing, regardless of income or socio-economic standing.

The 2023 Summit will invite renters, landlords, housing advocates, developers, public officials, nonprofit and for-profit leaders, and community members to come together to share experiences, learn from each other, and design innovative and collaborative solutions to forge a new pathway forward toward housing security and freedom.

This year's Summit will take place on Thursday, April 20th from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Eastwood Event Center, 5577 Youngstown Warren Rd. in Niles, Ohio.

Eviction in the Mahoning Valley

Ohio ranks 9th in the nation when it comes to evictions, with 11% of renters finding themselves at risk of losing their home. In the Mahoning Valley, both Warren (77th) and Youngstown (91st) make the list of the top 100 mid-size cities with high eviction rates. Tough economic conditions, lack of affordable homes, poor housing conditions, a mostly older rental stock, and large swaths of still segregated communities have created a perfect storm of housing insecurity and inequity. Roughly one-third of Mahoning (32%) and Trumbull (31%) residents rent their homes.
