Community Legal Aid offers free local legal workshops and programs in November

Community Legal Aid is offering free workshops next month to anyone who may need legal assistance or who has an interest in these legal topics. All programs are taught by attorneys and are free and open to the public.

Upcoming Events and Workshops

Veterans Stand Down Event (Stark County) – Thursday, Nov. 1, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Walsh University Cecchini Center, 2020 E. Maple Street, North Canton. Legal Aid advocates will be on-site at this free program, hosted by the Serving Area Military Center. Here, local veterans can learn about available resources such as medical care, identification cards, service dogs and more. For more information, visit www.starkvets.org.

Homeowner Information Class (Stark County) – Thursday, Nov. 1, 5 p.m. at the Stark Main Library, 715 Market Ave. N., Canton. Free and open to the public, this class covers mediation preparation, foreclosure, mortgage payment challenges and solutions.

Legal Office Hours at Taft Elementary School (open to families of the Taft Promise Neighborhood) – Tuesday, Nov. 6, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Taft Elementary School, 730 E. Avondale Avenue, Youngstown. To schedule an appointment call 330-362-8350.

Legal Aid Hours at Taft Promise Neighborhood-- Meet with a Legal Aid attorney to discuss your legal needs and see if you qualify for assistance, Wednesday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m.-noon at the Taft Promise Neighborhood Office, 3025 South Ave. (corner of South and Boston, at the old fire station), Youngstown. Custody Clinic: Learn how to represent yourself (Stark County) -- Wednesday, Nov. 7, 1 p.m., Legal Aid’s Stark County Office, 306 Market Ave. North, Canton. Learn about the custody process and required forms.  Apply at the Legal Aid Helpline: 800-998-9454.

Legal Clinic: Agreed Custody (Stark County) – Wednesday, Nov. 7, 1:15 p.m., 306 Market Ave. North, Canton. This clinic is specific to cases where both parties have agreed to a proposed custody plan. Apply at the Legal Aid Helpline: 800-998-9454.

Legal Clinic: Counsel and Advice (Summit County) – Thursday, Nov. 8, 5 p.m. Free and open to the public, this program will offer attendees an opportunity to meet with an attorney to discuss legal issues such as custody and visitation, divorce and dissolution, civil protection orders, bankruptcy and debt, record sealing, housing, and others. Legal Aid at Akron Urban League’s Community Meal – Thursday, Nov. 8, 5:30 – 7 p.m. Free to the public, this community meal will offer guests the opportunity to learn about Legal Aid services. Akron Urban Leagues, 440 Vernon Odom Blvd., Akron.

Legal Clinic at the Front Porch Café (Summit County) – Tuesday, Nov.13, 4-5 p.m., 798 Grant Street, Akron. Free and open to the public, this education clinic will present Legal Aid advocates on hand to answer questions about expungements and record sealing, driver’s license reinstatement, and other general legal issues.

Learning Is For Everyone (LIFE) – Thursday, Nov. 15, Windemere Community Learning Center, 2283 Windemere Ave., Akron. This free school advocacy workshop for parents and guardians of school children describes the educational services available for local school children. Parents/guardians learn how to work with their children's schools to ensure they receive the appropriate support. Refreshments and children's activities will be offered. Poverty Toolkit – Open to anyone who works with low-income populations. The free workshop provides connections to social resources and public benefits to help advocates better serve their clients and community. Thursday, Nov.15, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., American Red Cross, 501 W. Market Street, Akron.

Divorce Clinic: Learn how to represent yourself (Wayne County), Thursday, Nov. 15, 1 p.m., United Way Wayne County, 215 S. Walnut Street, Wooster.  Free to those who qualify Legal Aid’s divorce clinics are designed to help educate clients on the divorce process and help them complete the forms required to petition the court for a divorce.  Apply at Legal Aid's HelpLine: 800-998-9454.
