Legal Aid Welcomes Five New Board Members for 2016

Four area attorneys and one community volunteer will join Legal Aid's Board of Directors in 2016.   David E. Butz, Erin Dickinson, J. Sean Keenan, Barbara Sanchez, and Kathy Wilkins were elected at the December 12th meeting of the Board of Directors.   We congratulate our incoming Trustees and look forward to working with them in the coming year.

David E. Butz, Attorney at Law

Mr. Butz is a director at Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., L.P.A. and is co-chair of their Litigation Section. He has also served as Chair of the Marketing Committee at the firm.  Mr. Butz devotes a majority of his practice to litigation matters including commercial and business disputes, construction litigation, personal injury litigation (plaintiff and defense), oil and gas matters, as well as handling divorces, custody and support matters.  Mr. Butz received his BA from Bethany College of West Virginia in 1984 and a JD from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1987.  He is a member of the Ohio State and Stark County Bar Associations who has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer and "Lawyer of the Year" in Family Law in the Akron Area by Best Lawyers in America in 2015.  In the past, Butz has served on the Board of Directors for ArtsinStark and as Board President for Siffrin Residential.  Mr. Butz was elected as a Fellow by the Ohio State Bar Foundation in 2014.

Erin Dickinson, Attorney at Law

Ms. Dickinson is an attorney and active volunteer within her community.  Ms. Dickinson served as a Senior Litigation Associate for the Akron office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour, and Pease LLP from 2009-2015.  While with Vorys, Ms. Dickinson focused her practice on business litigation involving oil and gas, commercial, banking, employer intentional torts, product liability, and employment disputes. Ms. Dickinson has served as Vice-Chair of the Akron Bar Association's Federal Courts Committee and is a member of the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce Knowledgeable Network of Women.  A graduate of the Ohio State Bar Association's Leadership Academy Class of 2011, Ms. Dickinson was selected as a Rising Star by Ohio Super Lawyers in 2014 and 2015.  Ms. Dickinson earned her BA from Vanderbilt University in 2002 and a JD from The University of Michigan Law School in 2005.

J. Sean Keenan, Attorney at Law

Mr. Keenan retired from active practice in 2007 but maintains an "of counsel" relationship with Day Ketterer Ltd.  Mr. Keenan joined Day Ketterer in 1971 after serving in the US Navy for three years.  Mr. Keenan has focused his practive on the representation of private entities in employment-related disputes, public organizations in civil rights cases, trade disputes, and corporate planning.  He has extensive litigation experience in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies investigating charges of discrimination.  Mr. Keenan also served as Special Counsel to the Attorney General of Ohio from 1998-2007.  Mr. Keenan earned an LL.B. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1967 after completing his BA at Walsh College in 1964.  He is presently a member of the Stark County and Ohio State Bar Associations and in the past has served as a member of the Stark State College President's Advisory Committee, as a Trustee fro Canton Tomorrow, as a member of the United Way Community Memorial Trust Committee, the Canton/Massillon Community Housing Resource Board, and the Canton Urban League, among others.

Barbara Sanchez, Attorney at Law

Ms. Sanchez is Legal Counsel to Nestle Professional North America, an operating company of Nestle USA, Inc. She acts as the general legal and business advisor for the company and oversees all aspects of delivery of legal services to Nestle Professional's divisions in Solon, Ohio and Tampa, Florida.  Prior to joining Nestle, Ms. Sanchez was associate legal counsel for Akron General Health System and spent six years with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. Active in the community in a variety of roles, Barbara currently serves on the Seton Catholic School Board of Directors and the City of Cuyahoga Falls Board of Zoning Appeals, and is a member of Leadership Akron Class 28.  Ms. Sanchez graduated from the University of Akron School of Law in 2005.

Kathy Wilkins, Community Volunteer

Ms. Wilkins is a resident of Akron who brings decades of community activism experience to the Board.  In the past she served for 14 years as an Akron Police Department Block Watch Captain, for 7 years with the East South Street Neighborhood Watch, as the Perkins - Arch - Leggett Youth Group Co-Leader, as a Board Member for the University Park Development Corporation and as a PTA Officer.  Ms. Wilkins is currently the Council President for Boy Scouts of American Troop 18, has spent four years as Kathy's Kitchen Food Program Director, three years as a Free Meal Coordinator for Christ is the Answer Ministries Food Pantry, and has been a member of the City of Akron, Ohio Housing Appeals Board since 2012.
