Staff Attorney
Staff attorneys address both individual and systemic legal issues that perpetuate the cycle of poverty. Successful candidates will use their skills to identify, find solutions for, and remediate the root causes of inequities in our justice system, including litigation, policy advocacy, and client and stakeholder education. Positions open in our Akron, Canton, and Youngstown offices.
Staff Attorney - Low Income Taxpayer Clinic
The attorney for the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) ensures the fairness and integrity of the tax system by providing free legal representation to low-income taxpayers in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The practice includes litigation in the US Tax Court, representation before the IRS and the Ohio Department of Revenue, systemic advocacy on issues having an impact on low-income and ESL taxpayers, conducting outreach and education to low-income taxpayers about their rights and responsibilities, and training attorneys on the intersection of tax law and other areas of law. Candidates may have experience in such activities or a strong passion for growing into the practice under the guidance of an experienced tax attorney.
Paralegal 1
The Paralegal I will, under the supervision of the Managing Attorney, assist in the provision of comprehensive, high quality legal services to eligible clients in civil cases in accordance with organizational policies and the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct. The Paralegal I will be called upon to provide support in a wide variety of civil cases and perform other duties as required. This position is for our Canton office.
Paralegal - Volunteer Legal Services Program
The VLSP Paralegal will support the volunteer program at Community Legal Aid by engaging and supporting private practice attorneys in pro bono service. This position is for our Warren office.
