On Saturday August 1, over 2,000 community members poured into the Cornerstone Free Methodist Church in Coventry for the 6th annual Cornerstone LEAP Community Outreach giveaway fair. The event offered free school supplies, food, personal care products, health services, and clothing to those in need of such items. Community Legal Aid was among the nearly 30 social service agencies and providers that attended the event.

During the LEAP event, over 1,000 backpacks were distributed, leaving no child in attendance without one. 550 haircuts, tons of personal care items, and 20,000 pounds of food were also given away. Free lunch was provided to all, as well as activities including live music, a teddy bear picnic, and outdoor blow up toys. Other free services provided during the event included vision screenings, blood pressures readings, health checkups, free ultrasounds, mammogram vouchers, legal advice, applications for aid, and job applications.

This was the first year social service agencies participated in the LEAP giveaway fair, and Legal Aid looks forward to being part of this wonderful outreach event again next year.
