Helpful Online Template Makes It Easy to Create a Statutory Form Financial POA

According to Pro Seniors, a Cincinnati based legal and long-term care non-profit that advocates for Ohio’s seniors, creating a financial Power of Attorney (POA) is one of the top five reasons clients call Pro Seniors’ Legal Hotline for Older Ohioans. To meet this need more efficiently, Pro Seniors has developed (in coordination with the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation) a free internet statutory form financial POA. This online tool prompts Ohioans to answer questions with the information needed to create this important legal document by themselves.

“Our senior clients tested the POA template and said the process was easy and that the explanations of the legal phrases encountered along the way were especially helpful,” said Mike Walters, Managing Attorney of Pro Seniors’ Senior Legal Hotline. Using the online template, an individual is guided through an “interview session” and responds to a series of questions regarding her own situation. After completing this information, a personalized statutory form financial Power of Attorney is produced that can be saved and printed. The final form also includes instructions for initialing and signing the document.

“Our goal in creating the statutory form financial Power of Attorney online tool,” explained Tom Bedall (Pro Seniors’ Managing Attorney), “is to offer immediate and easy access to this frequently-requested form that recently changed when Ohio’s New Uniform Power of Attorney Act became effective March 22, 2012. The financial POA is one of several legal documents that all senior Ohioans should consider.” The template is also intended for use by legal aid societies and other professionals who provide legal assistance to low income Ohioans. The link to the statutory form financial Power of Attorney online template is available from Pro Seniors’ website: www.proseniors.org.
